Modern practice and reconstruction

Present-day rites can be meaningful without being presented as unchanged Viking tradition.

Modern tradition

Modern seiðr, rune, and ritual practices developed from historical sources, folklore, occultism, psychology, and personal experience. These connections do not make them worthless, but they make them distinctly modern.

Reconstruction fills gaps with reasoned assumptions. The larger the gap, the more important clear labelling becomes. “Inspired by a saga” is more honest and informative than “exactly what the Vikings did”.

Fixed rune-oracle meanings, standard layouts, and many invocation formulae are modern developments. Historical rune names and rune poems can inspire practice but do not provide a complete surviving manual of divination.

Hrafnspeki does not judge personal spirituality. Its editorial boundary concerns factual claims: evidence, plausible reconstruction, and modern creation should coexist without being confused.
